Dorothy Tuttle |
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dorothy Mary Tuttle. Dorothy passed away unexpectedly,
in her Harwich home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the age of 75.
Dotty, as she was known by her family and friends was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan to the Reverend Daniel C.V. Tuttle
and Harriet S. Tuttle.
After graduating from Sharon High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts
Amherst and went on to earn a master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Colorado at Denver.
Dotty worked for many years for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and Department of Public Health at
institutions such as McLean Hospital and Tewksbury. Her life’s work was a commitment to mental health and the
delivery of dignified, compassionate care for all she encountered. Her life’s joy was her dogs, her family, and
friends. She ensured those whom she loved knew it. Always calling and texting just to let us know she loved us.
Early in her adulthood, Dotty enjoyed traveling the world and experiencing different cultures and cuisines. She
was an avid New England sports fan, with a special affinity for the Red Sox.
Dotty was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Donald Tuttle and Daniel Tuttle. She leaves behind her
sisters, Elinor Leonard (Robert) of Manomet, MA and Joan Callahan (Charles) of Harwich Port, MA and
Brother-in-Law, James L. McGonigle of Harwich Port, MA. Her nieces and nephews Donna Tuttle of Holyoke, MA,
Daniel Tuttle (Sandra) of Portland, CT, Suzanne, and Sandra Tuttle of Norway, ME, Meghan McGonigle, and
Jocelyn Hemeon (Jeffrey) of Harwich, MA, Alyson Keller (Timothy) of Berthoud, CO, and Sara Callahan of Denver, CO.
In addition, she had many cousins, great nieces and nephews whom she loved endlessly and who loved her.
Her beloved dog, Pumpkin will miss their walks and watching Red Sox games together on the couch. Without a doubt,
she was welcomed into heaven by Joy Pup, Sophie, and Maggie.
A private burial service was held in Pownal, Maine.
